Nilesh Singit PhotoI began my professional career as a software and website developer at Spastics Society of India (SSI) [now known as ADAPT]. Volunteered at ADAPT and began my long affair Accessibility, Disability Rights. Law and Advocacy and Trainings, never looked back. Filed a Public Interest Litigation [PIL] against BEST buses in Bombay leading to 30 accessible buses.

With the success in the PIL I moved to ICHRL . Filed many PILs but two stand out Right to Vote and Accessibility in Railways, this matter is still sub judice. A committee of Petitoners and Railways has been appointed to provide recommendations and monitor progress. In ICHRL prepared training materials on Disability and Human Rights, Conducted Master Trainers via AUSAid funding in many parts of India. During this tenure was invited to New York to participate in 6th ADhoc session of the UNCRPD.

Co-Founded Disability Research and Design Foundation with Architect Abhishek Ray to address specific issues of Accessibility in built environment . The team of a person with disability [user] and architect [creator] is unique and this has helped in spreading awareness on Access from local body [park] to national level DRDF is also part of the committe setup by High Court to make railways accessible. DRDF conducted a 2 day awareness programme in Cochin to Architects and Policy makers prior to the making of the Master Plan for Cochin. DRDF has also worked in Making Bombay High Court Accessible.

Recently worked as Research and Advocacy officer at CDS NALSAR University Hyderabad. Part of the team that drafted the new disability bill under the Sudha Kaul Committee. Prepared India's first post ratification of UNCRPD. Worked on the draft bill to replace the existing NTA.
